The Houston Engineers Week Committee has named BGE President and CEO Lee Lennard the 2025 Houston Engineer of the Year! The prestigious award recognizes engineers who have significantly contributed to the profession and the Houston area. Lee will be honored this February during Houston Engineers Week and National Engineers Week.
Lee’s 37-year career exemplifies the highest standards of engineering excellence and community service, and he has made lasting contributions through technical innovation, strategic leadership, and civic engagement.
Appointed President and CEO of BGE in 2014, Lee has driven the company’s significant growth, tripling its size and expanding its reach to five states. He has led impactful infrastructure projects, including flood resilience measures such as Project Brays and large-scale developments like Bridgeland and Cross Creek Ranch, which successfully withstood the historic flooding from Hurricane Harvey.
Lee’s advocacy has resulted in transformative local, state, and national policies and funding. His decades-long work with organizations such as the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and the West Houston Association has advanced critical infrastructure funding, including securing $2.5 billion in flood control bonds through the Houston Stronger initiative.
His commitment to mentorship and education is equally remarkable. Lee has created internal leadership programs for young engineers, promotes involvement in technical societies, and has spearheaded scholarships for future engineering talent at institutions like Texas A&M and the University of Houston.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Lee and his wife, Kate, embody a spirit of service, supporting global and local humanitarian causes. From building water wells in Guatemala through Living Water to sponsoring community food pantries through dedicated ministries, their efforts continue to make a meaningful difference.
Houston Engineers Week’s Engineer of the Year award underscores Lee’s dedication to advancing the engineering profession, improving community infrastructure, and inspiring the next generation of engineers. Congratulations, Lee, on this well-deserved honor!
