Alene Efaw, PE, was recently named as the recipient of the inaugural Pat Brown Leadership Award winner for BGE, Inc.
Efaw, a 10-year veteran of the company’s Land Development Department where she serves as project manager, was honored for her community work both in Texas and abroad.
The new award is considered among BGE’s highest honors. It focuses on employees who give back to their community with volunteer efforts and leadership.
Among Efaw’s community service in Houston, she has raised $6,000 for Reach Unlimited, and rolled people who use wheelchairs through the race so they can feel the joy of completing a race and receiving a medal. She’s also raised money for Multiple Sclerosis by participating in the MS150, a ride from Houston to Austin. She is a volunteer at schools for the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) program with area schools, a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and, during Hurricane Harvey, spent countless hours volunteering in the community.
The last two years she has led the efforts to create a BGE, Inc. Living Water International team, traveling to Guatemala and El Salvador to help educate a community on hygiene and build a water well that will provide water for the community for years to come.
A graduate of Texas A&M University, she makes her home in Houston.
